Day 4: Exploring Lake Toya and the Charming Otaru

Day 4 ushered us into the captivating beauty of Hokkaido's Lake Toya region, beginning with a visit to the remarkable Mount Usu, an active stratovolcano offering panoramic views of Lake Toya from its slopes. Nearby, Shōwa-shinzan, a volcanic lava dome born in the 1940s, presented a unique geological marvel, adding a touch of intrigue to our exploration.








The picturesque Otaru Canal awaited in the charming town of Otaru, adorned with historical buildings and brimming with life. A boat ride along the canal unveiled its scenic beauty, although considerations about its value emerged amidst the experience.


At the Otaru Beer Otaru Warehouse No.1, we immersed ourselves in craft beer culture, savoring the town's flavors and indulging in the local brewery's offerings, adding a unique touch to our day.



The unique pace of Otaru unfolded as its shops closed early, revealing a quieter side to the bustling town. For a delectable meaty indulgence, Gyukaku on Otaru Canal Street offered Yakiniku delights, proving to be a pocket-friendly feast amidst the town's culinary offerings.
